From 22 to 25 September, POSA will be in Berlin for InnoTrans 2026, one of the world's leading international events for the railway industry and, more broadly, for mobility technologies.

Four days during which manufacturers, designers, operators and suppliers from around the world come together to showcase solutions, share expertise and discuss the transformations shaping the industry.

For POSA, taking part in InnoTrans means exactly this: meeting the market in one of the places where the future of mobility is being designed and contributing its expertise in the development and production of technical elastomer solutions.

A trade fair that reflects the changing face of mobility

InnoTrans takes place every two years in Berlin and brings together five major segments of the industry: Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Interiors and Tunnel Construction. The 2026 edition is particularly significant as it marks 30 years since the first InnoTrans was held in 1996.

The railway industry is undergoing a profound transformation.

Digitalisation, automation, artificial intelligence, new propulsion systems, sustainability and energy efficiency are changing both vehicles and infrastructure. At InnoTrans 2026, 180 world premieres will be presented, while 113 vehicles from 17 countries will be showcased in the Outdoor Display.

Behind the most visible innovations, however, lies a world of less conspicuous components that are nevertheless essential to the operation, safety and reliability of railway systems.

Among them are elastomers.

The role of elastomers in the railway industry

A train is an extremely complex system, exposed throughout its operating life to vibration, mechanical stress, temperature fluctuations, weather conditions and widely varying operating environments.

Seals, profiles, sealing systems and technical rubber and silicone components must therefore ensure reliable and consistent performance over time.

Material selection becomes an integral part of the design process.

There is, in fact, no single elastomer that is universally better than all others. There is only the material that is best suited to a specific application, its operating conditions and the requirements it must meet.

This is the same principle that guides POSA in the development of its custom solutions.

From material to solution

POSA's experience in elastomer processing enables the company to support its customers not only in component manufacturing, but also in the earlier stages of the project, when materials, geometries and production processes are selected.

In the railway industry, this approach is particularly important.

Durability, temperature behaviour, resistance to external agents, mechanical properties, safety and reliability must all be considered together.

This is why the development of a technical component does not necessarily begin with production.

It begins with understanding the application.
